Carpe Diem

"Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary"  - John Keating

Dead Poets Society

Carpe Diem was first used in 23 BC by the Latin poet Horace. It means "seize the day", or YOLO today thanks to Drake. Rewatching Dead Poets Society over winter break has inspired me to adopt this mantra as a way of life and to make the most of every day.

Since traveling to Costa Rica in high school for a marine biology class focused on sea turtle conservation, my interest in seeing different cultures and lifestyles has spiked significantly. I have been fortunate enough to visit places all over the world in the past few years, including Philadelphia, Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Quebec City, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Copenhagen, among others. Experiences in each city have furthered my understanding of the human race, the similarities across cultures, and the subtle differences between people that make life worthwhile.

I am in my third year at Purdue University studying Electrical & Computer Engineering and Film. With graduation just around the corner, I am excited for what lies ahead, but feel that opportunities to visit other countries will be more limited than those I have now an undergraduate. Thus, I am heading to Venice for a spring break study abroad course to see yet another unique culture overseas.

While in Venice, I hope to absorb the culture, interact with the locals, avoid pickpockets, and suck out the "marrow" of my pistachio gelato cone.

Don't Look Now

Don't Look Now Sutherland

Don't Look Now (1973), based on a novella by Daphne du Maurier, portrays Venice as a damp, dark, and dangerous city.  Beware of little strangers in red rain coats!
